e Notting Hill Carnival Posted by Picasa

telly daze

Hee, I HAVE SLEPT IN THE WHOLE of MONDAY!!

Well it’s the summer bank holiday and thus a public holiday!
Hee it’s been a long and good weekend I must say.. there was a
huge huge festival called the Notting Hill Carnival that occurred
over the past 3 days and I went for it!

And boy, I didn’t miss a thing… hee.. it was ‘supposingly’ the biggest thing in all Europe! Haha.. well if u take into account tha amount of beer I stepped into, the elbowing of people that I had to endure for some parts of the parade, and certainly a headache that may have been caused partly due to the amount of 2nd hand weed that my lungs had to endure! Haha..

Well I guess you can sorta compare it with Chingay in a way, but on a much larger scale? Haha.. it’s really a celebration of the emancipation of the black community here in the UK.

Music, as I have been taught and believe, is something that will always be able to touch the hearts of people of all races, religion and beliefs. It is precisely what I think this whole festival, a true celebration of black culture, is primed for… a reaction that arose from the racial riots that occurred in the past of London.

And I perched myself happily upon a high wall just opposite where the so-called judging platform was to get a great view of the parade as it passed..
People were standing by the streets, sitting on the kerb, perched on higher walls like me, bending out of windows, and even sitting on their window sills soaking in the atmosphere of the whole place! Haha it was pretty entertaining actually, if u consider skimpily dressed women in bikinis dancing on balconies and rooftops.. haha quite a feast really! They were so “fit”, as the Brits would put it… hee

Was eating “jerk chicken with rice”, actually I dun understand why it’s labeled a jerk.. haha.. it’s just plain marinated bbq chicken with rice! Man, slang here slang there.. while I was eating, sitting on somebody doorsteps and sympathizing with him about the garbage he has to clear the next day, this black guy comes up and gives me a “smoking sign”,.. you know? Haha the “OK” sign but off your lips..

Abit terrible timing for charades but my initial tot was that he wanted me to spare him a stick, which isn’t really uncommon here.. but roughly 3 seconds later I understood what he meant..

well, 1stly, I’m low on cash, 2ndly, i was having my lunch n not at all glad to be interrupted and 3rdly, I decided I didn’t want any weed for the moment. Haha… well so I tactfully said no and for a moment I tot I saw a tint of disappointment there.. haha.. maybe I have this ‘I need some grass’ look on my face with a plate of bbq chicken and a pint of beer?!? Hahahaha

life can be pretty amusing, isn’t it…

Laziness Rules

Humans are generally lazy creatures. Yes we are… hey, don’t get me wrong here; we might work ourselves silly in the white-collar battlefield termed ‘work’ everyday single one of these days but it’s what happens before and after work that determines your state of unholy laziniess.

… which kind of explains why some mornings I skip my morning prayers, fail to make my lunch sandwich or while I take 15mins in the shower… showering.

………………………………………………..>>…………………………………………………

the firm and the people are pretty cool, all rather friendly in fact, or maybe it’s simply the British strongly against “antisocial behaviour”.. yes I have seen poster adverts being subtle in declaring that “antisocial behaviour” is undesirable in the society.. haha I mean like fwah.. maybe it’s to tell the non-brits that.. haha.. they ARE generally all not unfriendly ‘blokes’.. hee

………………………………………………..>>…………………………………………………

I walk to work everyday.. yes, walk. It takes me approximately a short 25mins brisk walk to get to my workplace, not considered far actually, but definitely not something that I would have done in Singapore for various reasons listed below:

  1. I wouldn’t wanna reach the office smelling like I’ve just came from a half marathon

  2. i tire way too easily when the weather’s all warm, and unless your boss is Italian, I doubt they would appreciate midday siestas

  3. our transportation network is way better than many others; so why walk a few bus-stops and risk your neighbours thinking you are in financial deep shit

  4. it costs an average of S$1.20 for a relative distance ride on the bus; in London u pay ₤1.20 regardless whether u hop off 1 stop after, or simply taking it to the other end of the route… explains why people prefer to walk

  5. and to summarise the 4 points above, yes people are born lazy.

.. and the main factor in nudging me to walk everyday is simply, that I’m almost officially broke. Yes, no more money indeed… sigh.

The Beginnings..

heya guys n gals!!!

decided to start blogging my life again since most of ya are worried whether I’m dead r alive in London, or maybe you couldn’t care much less, haha, but I’m back to haunt u nevertheless!!!

It’s been such a nice weekend.. ‘nice’ in the my sense of just lazing around and not really moving around too much.. but the actual fact is that I just came back from a pub near my place to watch the silly match between Chelsea and the Gunners.. man it was such a waste of time! Haha.. both teams played like hell and at the end of it, all that happened was a fluke goal!! Unbelievable..

Well, many strange and bizarre things have been happening in this course of time that I have been in London, little little things that might actually not be so strange but sometimes, “cutesy”... haha

At abt 5 in the late afternoons of the weekend while I’m probably too lazy to move my ass outta the place, there’s always ONE sound tat reminds me of the time… at almost precisely 5pm, there would be a ‘music box’ chime song that wanders past my window... It’s strangely surreal when one hears it lying in bed.. it’s the neighborhood ice-cream man in his truck cruising by slowly, enticing all the little ones out into the streets.. reminds me of how in Siglap, one can ALSO hear this old single-armed uncle riding his tricycle along the main road just screaming at the top of his voice.. so such things happen everywhere.. haha

Well the week before I started work at the office, I actually took time to head up to York where I met with Norman and Joshua, friends from junior college that I haven met up in years.. It’s such a wonderful feeling when u can see someone after so long and just feel like it hasn’t been that long at long... the week in Scotland, besides the awesome scenery, was more significant to me simply because I met up with friends that mattered... and then realizing they are still so important and cherished in your life...
